I believe that everyone has an amazing TED Talk in them! Today I wanted to share with you 3 quick tips to help you speak more effectively at your next TED style event.
You might be asking yourself “Why is she saying TED style?” well that’s because so many events emulate TED and TEDx now in terms of speech length, content and structure.
So here we go:
- The BEST time to prepare for a #TEDx style talk is **before** you even audition for one. That’s something most people don’t realize and it’s your first big tip! Serial TEDx speakers (the ones I know who have done multiple TEDx talks) prepare their (i) topic (ii) outline and (iii) first script draft well in advance. Often working with an Official TEDx Speaker Coach like me and THEN they audition and we can make improvements as we go.
- The second tip is to talk about something that ignites your PASSION and you can speak about intelligently. Please do **not** pick a topic because it’s trendy. I see people do this a lot and it means you will be competing with a lot of other speakers on the same topic.
- The final tip is to PREPARE and REHEARSE like you’ve never done before. As I always say to my clients don’t be disappointed for the results you don’t get from the work you don’t do. You must put in the work and that means hours and hours of practice and improvement. This is not the time to “wing it” and yes I can always tell.
If you’re reading this and you are on your way to doing your first TEDx then good luck!!! I’m so excited for you.
If you have always wanted to do a TEDx and it’s on your bucket list then what are you waiting for? Get in touch with me and let’s start planning that talk so you are ready like the pros, BEFORE you go in to audition.
